Filters for Black and White photography
To get the best black and white image results and quality, photograph the image in monochrome mode (digital camera) or with black/white film (analog camera). When digitally post-processing a color image, from color to black/white (e.g. conversion to grayscale), the image loses shades and grayscales that would have been preserved if the image had been photographed in black/white from the start. If you wish to enhance shades and contrasts in a black/white image, this can easily be done with the help of a B+W camera filter designed for black/white photography without degrading the original quality of the image (data file).
A range of variants for different effects
B+W filters for black/white photography are available in a range of variants designed to produce different effects. Simply described, the filter intensifies the color in the subject that corresponds to the color of the filter and the complementary colors in the subject are toned down. If you e.g. photographing an apple tree with a red filter mounted on the camera, the leaves on the tree become darker and the red apples brighter. Yellow-colored filters are used to increase contrasts in mainly landscape photography because that filter has the ability to clearly increase contrast and give a darker sky. The picture gets a higher brilliance when the greenery is reproduced more differentiated. Yellow medium filter is considered a standard filter for black/white photography. An orange filter increases the effect further on the same subject and can give diffuse clouds and a much more dramatic impression. It can also be used for portrait photos to hide any marks and blemishes. The group of red filters can enhance this effect to the point where they can transform a summer landscape into a dramatic “storm” or a dune landscape into a moonscape with an almost completely black sky.

Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC)
MRC by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent, thus facilitating filter maintenance.
Basic filter ring
Basic filter ring is durable and robust due to brass mount with a better grip due to optimized knurl. Easier mounting due to new lacquer technology. Basic filters can be used on most lenses down to 24mm, size 24x36.
