Pikendustorudel puuduvad optilised elemendid, mis võimaldab pildistada suuremaid objekte ja lähemalt, ilma pildi kvaliteeti muutmata. Pikendustorudel on kroomitud kinnitus ja need on ühilduvad Sony E kinnitusega APS C objektiividega. Automaatse teravustamise ja TTL valgusmõõtmise funktsioonid töötavad endiselt nagu tavaliselt. Siiski soovitatakse teravustada käsitsi, kuna teravustamine on väga täpne. Ideaalne makrofotograafiale Igal objektiivil on minimaalne teravustamiskaugus. Kui lisate objektiivi ja kaamera kere vahele pikendustoru ehk nn vaheketta, väheneb minimaalne teravustamiskaugus. Mida suurem on pikendustoru fookuskaugus, seda lähemale saate objektile minna. See on ideaalne makrofotograafia ja eriliste lähivõtete jaoks. Kuidas vaheketas töötab? Vaheketas suurendab kaamera pildisensori ja objektiivi tagumise läätse vahelist kaugust.
