Zenko (Japanese: 善狐 - good fox) are benevolent, heavenly foxes under the patronage of the goddess Inari. In Japan, in a village in Hokkaido, lived the respectable but poor Aito family. One evening, while sitting on a stump and looking out over the rice fields, he saw a strange fox speeding past. Her sad eyes looked straight at Aita, who couldn't stop wondering that this fox had many tails. Thinking that the fox was hungry, he came closer and gave her the remains of his meal. The fox hurriedly crept up to the food and, having swallowed everything in one bite, scurried off like a madman, waving his beautiful multi-colored tails. This kind of communication between the fox and the man became closer day by day, and the harvest of Aito's family also grew. Zenko became not only a symbol of their family's prosperity and harvest, but also a real member of the family.
